About Lekki

The Lekki Peninsula comprises a naturally formed peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean East of Lagos City and on Lagos Lagoon. The peninsula is approximately 70 to 80 km long, stretching from Victoria Island in the west to Refuge Island in the east, with an average width of 10 km.

The Lekki Sub-Region includes several Estates, gated residential developments, agricultural farmlands, areas allocated for a Free Trade Zone (FTZ), an airport, and a sea port.


There are several beaches along the Lekki Peninsula, the foremost being Lekki Beach, located a few miles from the city center. Other beaches include Elegushi Private Beach, Alpha Beach and Eleko Beach. Oniru Private Beach and Bar Beach in Victoria Island near Lekki are also among the Lagos’ attractive beaches and remains popular with foreign tourists. Beach shelters made of palm fronds and umbrellas, available for rent, keep the sun at bay, as well as provide a place to enjoy snacks or refreshments sold by local traders.

The Lekki Conservation Centre, a nature reserve is also located opposite Chevron Office Complex on the Lekki Peninsula.

Major shopping malls in Lekki includes The Palms, Lekki near Victoria Island and Ikota Shopping Complex near VGC, Ajah. Another recent addition to the shopping malls is Park 'n' Shop owned by Spar, located adjacent to Nicon Estate, Lekki.

The proposed landuse master plan for the Lekki Sub-region envisages the Lekki Peninsula as a Blue-Green Environment City. The unique characteristics of the Atlantic Coast, Lagos Lagoon and the inland natural areas will be protected and enhanced to give Lekki New City the special natural ambience character.
